The island is a metaphor of a safe territory with defined borders: inside of a closed space, in nature or just inside yourself. Borders or boundaries? Visions of different artists about these are not the same. Restrictive ideas always follow some doubts and scary forecasts for the future. And the present is objectively nervous, we live in a global news flow which started with COVID. For a long time the world as a whole didn’t have huge shocks. In fact the last big international issue was the Y2K problem, or millennium bug. Almost 20 years passed without global paranoia's. Wars in Iraq or Afghanistan definitely were a humanitarian crisis, but they did not touch the whole world, and could be defined as a real global concern. The Coronavirus pandemic returned the world into the state of wholeness. It is interesting that after COVID we can observe the rise of esoteric moods in societies. And first of all, COVID itself raised a lot of occult and esoteric beliefs.
Now Europe has a real war inside and expectations of energy crisis (if not to say, ongoing energy crisis). Southern Europe tries to ignore the problem as a whole concerning more about electricity, and Eastern Europe, the main shelter for refugees, seems to not worry too much about energy (and it used for modest lifestyle and economy), and only involved in the political situation. What should the so called ordinary people feel after several turbulent years? Is it going to end some day? Or return into more a calm reality without so active struggles on all levels? (not with the person’s own death).
There is no way out in a fragmented flat world. Nobody knows where to escape these problems - Africa, Asia, Oceania - these regions had their own issues. New times for Europe. The sense of insecurity gives birth to wishes of isolation, to wishes ‘to cultivate our garden’. For example, small scale farming. Or clean the water in the tank. This kind of ecological and mindful escapism can be a door to the inner world, full of myths, life experiments and attempts to reach something bigger than your without direct connection with society.
Switzerland as a land-locked island can become a perfect place for re-imagining your living in energetic isolation. Opening an exhibition here, we officially open our cultural space in Zürich, which aims to support and protect people with spiritual awakening - in the broad understanding of this term - and open the path to our own and others’ interests in self-development. We don’t support any defined political strategy or religion, as art is always a zone where you can work with undefined, avant-garde, and just curious and new. At the same time, we are interested in the future world, full of light and harmony, and in finding a way to spirituality through art.
